HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- 

Light Iron, a postproduction house specializing in content originated on file-based motion cameras, has hired Marc Vanocur for the newly created position of chief operating officer. The addition comes after Light Iron experienced a fifty percent growth in personnel in 2013.

“Bringing Marc to Light Iron is an investment in our executive leadership,” said CEO Michael Cioni. “Marc’s experience leading post companies through growth and technological change is going to be critical as the industry continues to move in new directions.”

Vanocur previously held executive roles at Technicolor, Todd-Soundelux, and Weddington Productions, overseeing business operations and navigating technological change. “Light Iron has been at the forefront of the file-based evolution in picture,” said Vanocur. “Having led sound companies through the same transition, I look forward to advising the company on leveraging its tech acuity for continued growth.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- 

For one day only, the White House will transform into a movie house for what will be a live streamed event online.

The American Film Institute is collaborating with the White House for the very first White House Student Film Festival held on Friday, February 28, 2014.

K-12 students from all over the country were asked to create short films about the connection between technology and education. Inside the East Room of the White House, President Obama will offer opening remarks prior to the screening of the top films.

Tune in this Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET/ 12:30 p.m. PT to watch the film festival as well as all the 16 short films as they stream live at whitehouse.gov/live.

Kal Penn (HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE) and Neil DeGrasse Tyson will also be present at the White House event.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- 

The Academy Awards ceremony will stream live online for the first time to select cable providers in eight U.S. cities.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and ABC announced Thursday that Sunday's telecast will be available online and on mobile devices. A cable or satellite subscription login is required for the live stream at Oscar.com and ABC.com, or via the mobile app WatchABC.com.

The live stream will be available in eight cities where ABC owns the local station: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and Fresno, Calif. It's also available only to subscribers of select cable companies: Comcast, Cablevision, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Midcontinent Communications, Verizon FiOS, Google Fiber and AT&T U-verse.

The 86th annual Oscars will be broadcast live Sunday from Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre.

Friends and family of Sarah Jones, the 27-year-old camera assistant who was struck and killed by a freight train last Thursday during filming in Savannah, Georgia, of the Gregg Allman biopic “Midnight Rider,” have launched a social media campaign to pay tribute to her. LONDON (AP) -- 

"Ripper Street" has been rescued.

The Victorian detective drama was canceled by the BBC earlier this year after two seasons because of poor ratings. But after an online campaign by fans, it is returning for a third series through a deal between the British broadcaster and online retailer Amazon.

Filming begins in May on the new series, which will be shown first on Amazon's Prime Instant Video service, before airing on BBC television.

Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn return as 19th-century police fighting crime in the sordid streets of London's East End.

BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson said Wednesday that the deal was "an exceptional opportunity" to bring the show back that would please fans while freeing up BBC money for new drama series.
