Marking Children’s Month, the organization Reinserta has launched its fundraising campaign to help mothers and children living in prison. A leading NGO in Mexico, Reinserta works on the emotional and social recovery of children and adolescents who have been exposed to the criminal justice system. Working with Grey Mexico, this short titled III (Three) seeks to make visible the motherhood and living conditions of children in contact with prisons in Mexico.

Donations raised by the campaign, including this film, will be used in the construction of dignified maternity spaces--like the ones Reinserta has built in several prisons--a new “baby library” in Monterrey, as well as for psychological and legal care programs that seek to guarantee their development inside and outside of prison.

According to Reinserta, around 500 children are born and live in prison and can live up to three years with their mothers inside the penitentiary centers.

This four-minute film tells the story of a group of women who are seen trafficking a package in prison that turns out to be a birthday candle to celebrate the third year of a child living in prison, who must be separated from his mother. The powerful and heartbreaking story invites viewers to help these mothers and their children.

“Creativity has the power to change people’s lives and this is a film that seeks to connect with people’s hearts, showing the reality faced by mothers and children in prison, with an unexpected twist that leaves you cold and invites you to help,” comments Alexis Ospina, chief creative officer of Grey Mexico.

The film was produced by Latin American production house Oriental Films and co-directed by Yupi Segura and the duo known as Sauna.
