The Frame Theory director Brandon M. Ward delivers an unapologetic view of southern life in American Aquarium’s latest music video, ‘Crooked + Straight.’
Tasked with representing the duality of the southern experience as mentioned in the lyrics of the song, Ward pulled from events and characters he knew as a teen growing up in rural Tennessee.
“Obviously, when you know something, when you’ve lived something, you can bring it to life in a way that’s genuine and more closely aligned with how the experience truly feels,” said Ward. “It was refreshing to collaborate with an artist like BJ Barham, who wasn’t afraid to allow me to show a side of the south that’s a little more gritty and bemired than is typically seen in media today.”
Crooked + Straight is from American Aquarium’s album, Things Change, released in 2018.
