Amendments to the Yukon Film Location Incentive program were announced by Economic Development Minister Jim Kenyon.
“Yukon is a prime location for film production and has a thriving local film industry,” Kenyon said. “These amendments will make our spectacular locations more cost effective for national and international film production companies, and will continue to support the local film industry.”
“The Film & Sound Commission meets regularly with local filmmakers and film organizations, and strives to incorporate their comments when improving programs,” Kenyon added. “Changes to the location incentive will provide additional opportunities for financial support for local productions and employment opportunities for skilled Yukoners.”
Amendments to the Yukon Film Location Incentive program include:
– raising the rebate amount by basing it on total Yukon expenditures (25 per cent) rather than on Yukon labour expenses only (35 per cent); and,
– raising the requirement for employing Yukon labour to 50 per cent.
The program keeps Yukon competitive with other jurisdictions in North America and around the world. Local film production companies are encouraged to apply for the incentive.
This program is one of five film funding support programs available through the Yukon Film & Sound Commission. The commission remains committed to supporting the continued growth of the film and sound recording industries, and maintaining its competitiveness with other jurisdictions while supporting Yukon industry members.
