Director Kieran Walsh recently completed his second spot for Acuvue’s “One Day” campaign, which features teens making the transition from glasses to contact lenses, highlighting the freedom that having contacts brings. The Wild Plum helmer teamed up with McCann Erickson – New York after the success of their collaboration last summer in the first commercial of the campaign.nn”Building on the first round’s success, we wanted a combination of believable performances, combined with a sense of empowerment and a look toward the future,” reflects Walsh. “By encorporating the forward looking phrase ‘One Day’, we tapped into the aspirations that all teens have. And with the liberation the lens provides, emotionally we tap into how the world will look without glasses for these teens.”nnWalsh strives to bring a sense of realism and authenticity in all of his work and when American teens are the target audience, his strengths in that area are fully tested. “Having them see themselves in the characters we’ve created and relate without feeling they were being sold something is always the main goal,” says Walsh.nnThe director spent over two-weeks in Sydney, Australia preparing for the four-day shoot. His experience “down under” was nothing less than positive. He recounts, “I was impressed with the debt of talent in Sydney. Working with dialect coaches, and great actors, we were able to assemble some very realistic characters.”nnAnother positive experience with the Acuvue shoot was reteaming with the McCann Erickson agency members. “It was great to work with McCann again on this round and look forward to collaborating again if the opportunity presents itself.”nn nTo view spot online click here.nnCreditsnClient: Johnson & Johnson Vision CarenProduct: Acuvue MoistnTitle: “Class President” part of Acuvue’s “One Day” campaignnAgency: McCann EricksonnVP, Executive Creative Director: David MoorenVP, Creative Director: Jack SpicernCreative Director: Kelly GirthnSVP, Executive Producer: Sally HotchkissnProducer: Christine CattanonBusiness Manager: Cece CritchleynnProduction: Wild PlumnDirector: Kieran WalshnExecutive Producers: Shelby Sexton / Sandy HaddadnLine Producer: Heather HellernDP: Ian McCarrollnProduction Service (Sydney): K&K McGrath Film Production nnAbout KIERAN WALSHnKieran Walsh‘s background furnished him with scant fodder for capturing family drama. Growing up the fourth of six children on the austere Maine landscape, Kieran is the only son of Irish parents. From an early age, his parents taught him to appreciate the arts: his mother introducing him to the works of painter Andrew Wyeth, his father encouraging him to view the work of fellow countryman and QUIET MAN director, John Ford. nnAfter attending Columbia College (of Columbia University) in New York, where he attended multiple university theatre workshops, Kieran moved to Los Angeles hoping to work as a stage actor, but wound up landing work as a production assistant on music videos instead. After completing two spec spots in 1995, he signed with production company, MJZ, and started to direct commercials. After six years with MJZ, Walsh began looking for opportunities with smaller companies — ultimately joining Chelsea Pictures in the year 2000. His work on behalf of ESPN, HSBC, Coke, Jameson and a number of other international companies has earned him much notoriety, including selection as one of the top live-action directors in a special report on directing talent in an international publication, as well as showcases of individual spots in most every journal covering the advertising industry. nnKieran explores the scripts he receives like a method-schooled actor, creating reality within the characters through subtext and back-story. “I like the challenge of giving the emotional connection between the characters and the viewer a voyeuristic quality and resonance. The audience is smarter than we give them credit for and the job of the director and agency is to support an idea through authenticity or they (the audience) will change the channel.” View Kieran’s work here. nnAbout WILD PLUMnBoutique production house Wild Plum was founded in 2007 by industry veterans Shelby Sexton and Alisa Allen.
