Vū Technologies, North America’s fastest growing network of virtual production studios for the film, video and advertising industries, announced the plans for their fourth and newest studio in Orlando, Florida. The 32,000-square-foot studio will host the largest LED Volume in the Vū studio in the network with three on-site stages. Vū’s Orlando studio is the latest addition to the company’s growing portfolio of virtual production studios in Tampa Bay, Nashville and Las Vegas.
“We are thrilled to expand the Vū network into Orlando which is a global destination for film and entertainment,” said Tim Moore, Vū Technologies’ CEO. Vu’s new studio location is just miles away from Disney and Universal Studios, which are two of the region’s largest producers of film and video content. In addition to being a top market for commercial filming, Orlando is the simulation capital of the world and has seen exponential growth in gaming and AR/VR development in recent years, and was named a top destination for tech companies and workers in recent polls.
Vū Technologies owns and operates advanced virtual production soundstages utilizing proprietary, patent-pending technologies that empower directors to shoot their talent in photorealistic LED volumes. The technology startup company recently raised the largest seed investment round in Tampa Bay, Florida history, with a historic $17 million seed investment from ADX Labs, Topmark Partners, and Angel investment syndicates from Orlando, Tampa, and Texas.
“Together with the technical talent pipeline coming from Full Sail University, University of Central Florida, Valencia College, Orange Technical College, the Dave School, and others, the Orlando market is the perfect location for the next Vū studio and to recruit top-tier talent from Orlando for our virtual studio network” said Vū Studio Director of Workforce Development Anji Corley.
“We believe within the next five to ten years, the idea of shooting on location or with a green screen will be a thing of the past. The paradigm shift to shooting in virtual production studios will forever disrupt and improve the way content is made in the film and TV industry” said Jon Davila, President & Co-Founder.
Vū has substantially invested in R&D, integrating camera tracking and real-time rendering applications to create immersive virtual environments for actors to perform in geographically diverse studios in real time.
“When there is tremendous talent paired with ingenuity right in your backyard, you do everything you can to support them,” said Thaddeus Bullard aka WWE Global Ambassador Titus O’Neil.
“Vū’s mission centers around expanding diversity in film, video production, and tech, giving young entrepreneurs the tools they need to succeed and it was important for me to be a part of that mission.
“I’ve been very fortunate to have had a friendship with Tim and Jon for years now and I’ve always admired how they’ve worked hard to invest in our community with a very compassionate and inclusive approach, so as an investor and partner it was an easy decision to bet big with them and Vū.”
“Vu’s technologies will not only strengthen the region’s stance as a top filming destination, but will also continue to align the production and innovation industries. There’s no better place to do that than Orlando,” said Lindsey Sandrin, former Director of the Orlando Film Commision and the General Manager of Vū Orlando. “When you add in the talent pipeline coming from the incredible schools and programs across the region, Orlando will be an unstoppable force in the future of this technology.”
Vū’s deep integration of Mo-Sys camera tracking technology, Mark Roberts Motion Control, Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, NVIDIA GPUs and other integration partners’ systems allow effectively realistic backgrounds to be generated in real-time, rendered from the point of view of the moving camera with perfect parallax.
Tim Giuliani, CEO of Orlando Economic Partnership added, “the 30 Orlando angel investors backing Vū’s expansion represent a clear signal that Orlando’s entrepreneurial investment community is getting behind new, innovative companies. Vū has their eyes set on the future of production – in regards to filmmaking, future technological implications, as well as talent pipeline. This expansion will not only attract more work for the region's already flourishing film industry, but also boost the strength of our innovation ecosystem and further diversify our economy.”
Vū Studio has worked with clients such as Mercedes, Apple, Neiman Marcus, Disney, and WWE anticipates clientele to continue to grow exponentially this year.
