The executive producers of the upcoming feature “Maybe This Time announce today that actor/producer Vincent DePaul will produce and star as “Harvey” in the upcoming romantic comedy. Starring veteran film and stage actor Mel England and penned by freshman scripter Richard DeFonzo, “Maybe This Time” is a gay romantic comedy about Robert Hunter, a wildly successful Liza Minnelli impersonator in New York City, who’s looking for Mr. Right. The only problem is that no one wants to date a drag queen!
Based on DeFonzo’s life as one of the most celebrated Liza Minnelli impersonators, “Maybe This Time” is a romantic comedy about the challenging love lives and backstage struggles of drag performers. “It’s such a wonderful script, it’s a funny and moving look into the real life world of drag performers,” said DePaul. “With the explosion of shows like “Transparent,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “Orange is the New Black” audiences are exploring LGBT issues in ways we never thought possible a few years ago, so we think we have a great opportunity to share this story with a big audience.”
DePaul, star of the two-time Emmy® winning Amazon Prime series “The Bay,” has been at the forefront of the LGBT indie scene for over a decade. One of his first starring roles was in the steamy “Contadora is for Lovers,” about a bisexual love triangle. He has since starred in and produced many popular LGBT titles, including the award winning “Walk a Mile in my Pradas,” “Wishmakers of West Hollywood,” and “I Want to Get Married.” DePaul began his career as an internationally renowned model then segued into acting in such mainstream feature films as John Waters’ “Hairspray” and “Riding in the Car with Boys” with Drew Barrymore. His TV career includes appearances on “House of Cards” “West Wing,” “Frasier,” “Charmed,” “Sex in the City,” HBO's “Six Feet Under” and “As The World Turns.”
England (“Ron and Laura Take Back America”), who executive produces and stars as Peter, the love interest of Robert (yet to be cast), said “It’s an honor to have Vincent on board the project. He’s a real trailblazer, and besides being one of the most talented and prolific actor and producers in the biz, he been an icon of LGBT indie films. We’re very lucky to have him.”
Tony award winning Broadway producer, Sue Vaccaro (“Clybourne Park”) and Anton Khachaturian (“RuPaul’s Drag U”) are involved as producer and associate producer respectively.
Producers are in talks with Chad Michael’s (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), and Liza Minnelli to join the production, which is scheduled to begin filming in 2017.
