Director David Cameron, revered for his artistry with the most iconic brand and beauty clients in the industry, has been signed for exclusive representation by Untitled.
EP and Untitled founder Jim Evans, who produced many of Cameron’s early breakthrough commercials, says, "We’re delighted to have David on board. Not only does he have an unequalled understanding of what makes fashion tick, he knows talent. He’s a meticulous artist and a pleasure to work with."
Cameron’s clients include Revlon, Olay, Garnier, Covergirl, Avon, Neutrogena and Lubriderm. Cameron has worked with many of the world’s most beautiful women: Halle Berry, Jennifer Garner, Rachel Weisz, Andie MacDowell, Julianne Moore, Courteney Cox, Diane Lane and Reese Witherspoon.
“David is a total package,” says Alice Ericsson, Executive Creative Director at Grey, New York. “He’s a conceptualist, very visual, has excellent taste and is a perfectionist in the details. When I first met David, he was a fashion designer and his artistic talent shows in his approach to every job.
"The talent (celebrities and supermodels) all love him. He is hardworking and calm. He’s directed L’Oreal cosmetics, Pantene and Covergirl commercials for me. He created one of the most successful and iconic campaigns for Covergirl ever โ the ‘Outlast Wedding’ spot. Harris [Savides] shot it, David directed and created a really perfect story.”
How did the client respond to the campaign? “Hello? Best selling lipstick they ever had! Everyone loves David,” says Ericsson.
Cameron is also known for his intrinsic creative collaboration. Tanya English, EVP and Director of Broadcast at Roberts & Langer DBB, says, "David just knows how to make the talent feel great. He is thorough โ he’ll do a treatment and then when we shoot he has his own board, too, with which he is very collaborative. He has a very keen eye for beauty and he’s clearly in tune with what we like.”
Chief Creative Officer Andy Langer concurs, “There’s something special that happens when I shoot with David. I sit by the monitor and watch the talent go through the script. I see something that just isn’t right, but there’s no need to get up and go on set. I know that in a take or two, David will fix it. Either he can read my mind or he pays attention to every detail. Maybe both.”
At age 24, he earned the inaugural Council of Fashion Designers Perry Ellis Award for New Talent. In 1987, Absolut vodka commissioned him to design their first fashion-inspired advertising. The now famous image of model Rachel Williams wearing Cameron’s silver mini dress, emblazoned with the Absolut logo, debuted to an avalanche of publicity and became iconic for the brand.
During the 1990s Cameron moved his focus to film. He directed promotional videos for designers Michael Kors, Anne Klein and Conde Nast’s GQ. Award-winning music videos followed for artists including Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton and Suzanne Vega (1997’s MVPA Video of the Year). From there he segued into television fashion and beauty advertising work, alongside spots for major clients such as IKEA, Verizon, Toyota, Ethan Allen and Pfizer.
As an accomplished editorial fashion photographer, Cameron’s work has appeared in Elle, Glamour and GQ. He lives in California with his wife and children.
