Award-winning Visual Effects Supervisor Simon Hughes, who was recognized for his role in “District 9” has joined the senior team at London’s Union VFX, Adam Gascoyne and Tim Caplan, co-founders of Union, announced today.
“Simon is a highly-regarded supervisor with strong relationships throughout the visual effects industry,” said Caplan.” His creative talents and collaborative approach to working with film studios and directors is what sets him apart and makes him such a great fit within Union. Simon, Adam and I worked together at the very beginning of our careers. The decision to reunite and pool our collective years of experience opens up exciting new prospects for Union.”
Hughes’ first project with Union will be supervising the visual effects for “How I Live Now” directed by Kevin Macdonald, which is set for release in 2013.
Hughes previously served at Image Engine Design Inc., where the Visual Effects Society honored his contribution to the Academy Award-nominated “District 9”. In recent years he supervised the visual effects for films including “Safe House”, “Immortals,” “The Losers” and “Law Abiding Citizen” amongst others. During his career, Hughes has worked at several of the UK’s most renowned companies including Double Negative, Clear Film, CIS, Rainmaker London and Cinesite, where he got his start in visual effects in 1997. His credits include “Gladiator”, “Bond: Die Another Day”, “Kingdom of Heaven”, “28 Weeks Later” and several “Harry Potter” films.
