Anya Taylor-Joy, Finn Cole, Dean Charles Chapman and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo to Star
Anya Taylor-Joy (THE WITCH, THOROUGHBREDS), Finn Cole (“Peaky Blinders”, DREAMLAND), Dean Charles Chapman (“Game Of Thrones”, BREATHE) and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (SING STREET) have been cast as the leads in the screen adaptation of HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN, written and directed by filmmaker Eoin C. Macken. Set to begin production in Ireland this month, the film is being produced by Richard Bolger (CARDBOARD GANGSTERS) and Union Entertainment Group’s Noah Haeussner (ARCTIC), with Paul W.S. Anderson, Conor Barry, and Michael Raimondi executive producing.
Adapted from Rob Doyle’s acclaimed Irish novel of the same name, HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN is set in 2003, where in one last summer of adolescence, an aimless teenager named Matthew (Charles Chapman), is pulled into a world of nihilistic toxic masculinity by his charismatic friend Kearney (Cole). Matthew yearns after his childhood sweetheart Jen (Taylor-Joy), an independent girl on her own trajectory, whilst their precocious friend Rez (Walsh-Peelo), starts to succumb to paranoia, damaging his relationship with Julie (Petticrew). Recently added to the cast are Travis Femmil and Conleth Hill.
Macken, in addition to being an accomplished director and novelist, is well known for his career as an actor, including for upcoming roles in the George R.R. Martin Syfy/Netflix series “Night Flyers”, as well as the Netflix feature CLOSE. Macken is represented by ICM, Magnolia Entertainment and Troika. Actor Dean Charles Chapman is represented by Troika and WME, while Finn Cole is represented by Troika and WME, and Anja Taylor-Joy is represented by CAA, Troika and Felker Toczek. As a co-production between the Irish Film Board and the United States, HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN is being shot by cinematographer James Mather (FRANK, LOCKOUT), and is set to start principal photography in August 2018.
HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN follows on the heels of ARCTIC, starring Mads Mikkelsen, on which UEG’s Haeussner serves as a producer and Union Editorial partner/editor Einar Thorsteinsson is an Executive Producer. That film was singled out by The Los Angeles Times as one of eight films to see at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. At the fest, Bleecker Street acquired US and select international rights to the film.
Other films produced or co-produced by Union Entertainment Group include JANIS: LITTLE GIRL BLUE, BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE: THE MOVIE and HATESHIP/LOVESHIP starring Kristen Wiig.
