Celebrated Singaporean filmmaker Siok Siok Tan began work several months ago on a “Twittamentary” about the popular micro-blogging service, Twitter and the idea is soon to come to life.
Siok Siok, a multiple Asian TV Award winner, former executive producer for Discovery Channel and an adjunct instructor at the famed Beijing Film Academy will bring her expertise in film making and production to this documentary. Siok holds a degree from Brown University in Comparative literature and while at the Film Academy she directed the film Boomtown Beijing, documenting the lives of “ordinary Chinese” in the year leading up to the Beijing Olympics.

Her new film is to be created in the open spirit of the Web. Twitter users will be invited to contribute story ideas, rich media and videos to the film. When the film is completed, it will be shared online with the Twitter community and the world at large under a Creative Commons license.
An avid Twitter user herself, Tan says, “I want to make a film that peels away the hype and explores how lives connect and intersect, and then are affected and changed as result of encounters on Twitter.”
Traditional filmmaking expertise is clearly not enough for this project based on social media. Tan has created a unique Twittamentary web platform with help from Lonnie Hodge, digital marketing expert, award winning writer and a past NEA fellow in writing. She has also enlisted Michael Slatoff, web developer and CEO of the Hong Kong based firm Electric Brain.
