Emmy® Award-winning LA-based post production company Therapy Studios lends its talents to complete color correction, finishing and sound mixing for Tig Notaro’s first HBO comedy special, Boyish Girl Interrupted.  The Funny or Die-produced special, which debuted on August 22nd, features the Grammy®-nominated comic in an all-new stand-up performance taped from the Wilbur Theatre in Boston.

Boyish Girl Interrupted sees Tig Notaro draw upon her personal experiences with the transparent, no-holds-barred honesty that has made her one of America’s most talked-about comedy talents.  Over the course of the one-hour special, Notaro candidly touches on a number of intimate subjects, including the sudden loss of her mother and her 2012 breast cancer diagnosis, for which she underwent a double mastectomy.

Some 35 minutes into the set, Notaro calmly begins to unbutton her shirt to rapturous cheers from the audience. Soon, she is completely topless, her scarred chest on display. Without skipping a beat, Notaro cracks a joke about air travel, and goes on to perform the remainder of her set topless. The fearless gesture proves less startling than how quickly she is able to regain the attention of the audience – a testament to the stand-alone brand of comedy and showmanship that makes Tig Notaro’s performances so uniquely compelling.

“It was cool to participate in something bigger than just comedy,” remarks Therapy Studios Executive Producer Joe DiSanto. “We always love working with Funny Or Die.”

Post production for the HBO special was handled by Therapy Colorist Omar Inguanzo, Flame Artists Wren Waters and Rachel Moorer, and Picture Assistant Jake Shaver. Sound Engineer Eddie Kim handled Sound Editing and Re-Record mixing, with audio assistance from Eric Shin.

Therapy Studios recently took home two Emmy Awards, from four nominations, for their work on the HBO docu-series Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, produced by sister company, Therapy Content. The travelogue, directed by rock icon Dave Grohl, won for Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.
