Northern Lights‘ Ted Gannon composed and performed the music for Hilary Duff’s web video mini-series featured on Youtube called THE CHASE to promote her new clothing line for DKNY, “Femme.”
The first episode of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/HilaryDuffPodcast#play/user/E61F7F0C8472450C/0/lG-uwtg4p8A.>THE CHASE, “Chapter One: The Beginning,” brought in over 350,000 views in its first week and became one of Youtube’s most watched videos.
The 7-part series was conceived and produced by New York and L.A.-based production company Impressionista Films and was post-produced bi-coastally, with Producer/Director Zack Resnicoff and L.A.-based screenwriter Sonny Calderon in L.A. and Composer/Performer Ted Gannon in New York.
“We listened to a lot of music before Ted came in and saved the day,” said Impressionista Films owner Zack Resnicoff. “We were thrilled to have found Ted. Ted’s music really helped to build the suspense that Hilary and DKNY were looking for. It’s ‘fashion sexy’ and dark at the same time.”
“Ted’s music took us on an audio journey. There’s no dialogue in any of the pieces so the music really carries the narrative through. Ted did a great job helping us build the suspense and excitement through music. You don’t even notice that there isn’t any dialogue because the music tells the story so well,” explained Zack.
“It was fun to work with my old friend Sonny Calderon (screenwriter of THE CHASE) and Zack; they would post new cuts, and I would post new music,” explained Ted Gannon about the creative process. And, since Hilary Duff had final approval on everything, “…it was interesting knowing that Hilary was listening to my music.”
The short films feature Hilary Duff being pursued 007-style through the streets of New York, donning her various DKNY pieces to hide her identity. THE CHASE series has a contemporary Film Noir feel to it, studded with an electronic music edge. “I really wanted the piece to feel like a big budget, feature-style suspense score,” says Ted.
The clothing line is set to hit stores this fall and is currently available on DKNY’s website. Many of the items have already sold out. Hilary’s line is already popular with fellow stars Drew Barrymore and Jessica Szohr.
