Technicolor PostWorks New York congratulates Cairo Drive, director Sherief Elkatasha’s heartwarming documentary set in Egypt’s capital, on winning the Viewfinders Competition Grand Jury Prize at this year’s DOC NYC film festival.
Technicolor-PostWorks, a Signature Sponsor of the festival, provided color grading and editorial finishing services for Cairo Drive, which documents the struggles motorists face in navigating the city’s incredibly clogged streets. Bobbie Thomas performed the final grade. The film was mixed at PostWorks, New York.
Completing its fifth year, DOC NY is the country’s largest film festival devoted to documentary films, this year including more than 150 films and events and 100 special guests. “We congratulate Sherief and all the winners at what was the best DOC NYC fest to date,” said Technicolor-PostWorks COO Rob DeMartin.
Additionally, Joe Beirne, CTO of Technicolor-PostWorks, and Ben Murray, founder and principal of The Room, Technicolor-PostWorks’ boutique finishing facility, hosted a discussion titled “Post-Production: Is It Worth It?” Esteemed documentarians Laura Israel (Windfall, Viewfinders Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC 2010) and Melinda Shopsin (The House I Live In, Grand Jury Prize 2012) joined the conversation, which addressed the needs of both veteran and novice filmmakers, as well as new approaches to editorial, color, sound design and final delivery. Panelists also discussed emerging camera formats and their impact on the post-production process.
