Technicolor – PostWorks New York, the East Coast’s leading provider of post production services for independent films, contributed to eight films that screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Among them was Red Hook Summer, Spike Lee’s powerful story of a Black teenager’s summer in the Brooklyn projects with his Baptist Preacher Grandfather.
Post production work for Red Hook Summer was conducted at Technicolor – PostWorks New York under Spike Lee’s direct supervision. The work included editorial conforming of the camera original data, digital intermediate color grading and visual effects integration.. Cinematographer Kerwin DeVonish supervised the color correction and editor Hye Mee Na also took part in the post sessions. Tim Stipan was the digital intermediate colorist for Technicolor – PostWorks New York.
“It’s a very exciting film and provided a unique opportunity to work with Spike Lee and help him achieve his vision,” said Technicolor – PostWorks Senior Vice President/Theatrical Sales Charles Herzfeld. “We were particularly honored to work on this film as it was truly Spike Lee’s independent feature and it was clearly a very important project for him on a personal level. He took a direct interest in every aspect of the post production and was the guiding force for the whole movie.” Herzfeld notes that Technicolor has worked with Lee on many of his feature films and documentary projects beginning with the 1995 film Clockers.
The film was principally shot with Sony F3 cameras, but specific elements were captured with Canon 5D, Super 8mm film cameras, and even an iPad 2. The iPad 2 was used to capture the recorded point of view of the young boy character known in the feature as Flik. The Canon 5D was used to mimic the point of view shots of the I-pad 2.

• The Fort, a short from director Andrew Renzi, about a boy who builds a fort in the woods.
