Swedish directing duo, Jens Klevje and Fabian Svensson, known by the moniker “Conjunction,” have joined production company Mighty8.
The team is most widely known for directing the Fever Ray video ‘Keep the Streets Empty for Me.’ Giving host to the running themes of loneliness and trauma so prevalent in all Fever Ray’s videos, ‘Streets’ has been described as ‘phantasmagoric neo-noir’, but the directors say it draws more from Jungian symbology and Japanese horror films.
“The idea was to move Fever Ray’s emotions to Asia, or to a country where you don’t really know what it is, so you get this idea that it’s a global phenomenon,” Svensson explains.
The Malmö-based directors recently directed a video for Swedish indie folk band, First Aid Kit, a duo comprised of teenage sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, who first emerged via their YouTube video cover of a song by the Fleet Foxes. A scene from Conjunction’s video for the band’s ‘I Met Up With The King‘ finds the girls in a surreal mountain landscape singing fireside near a tent they’ve pitched outside the castle.
Other work by Conjuction includes ‘Fashionfilm‘ which uses expressionist dance and a tale of tragic romance set against the lonely bleakness of an urban dreamscape to showcase the Signe Bogelund-Jensen fashion collection. ‘Fashionfilm‘ finds itself right in step with the quickly evolving fashion advertising world which of late has seen such innovation as Burberry’s entirely interactive advertising campaign launched in July.
