Right on the heels of signing with national production company Superlounge, The Richards Group tapped Director Joe Schaak for a new campaign for MetroPCS Communications, Inc. Bringing the spots to life, Schaak incorporated his notable past directing experiences producing commercials for ESPN, Verizon, Target and McDonald’s, to name just a few. Schaak combines his humorous and creative talent to entertain audiences by reminding them of the wireless carrier’s mantra, “We Have It.”

“MetroPCS was a great project,” comments Schaak. “Agency Producer Kathryn Garner was awesome to work with and really handled an ever-evolving project with professionalism and positivity. I worked very closely with David Ring, Art Director at The Richards Group, to really fine-tune the concepts. It was very collaborative and really fun. He and Mike Malone, Creative Director at The Richards Group, are very smart guys who know their client well, so it made the process very easy. They were also open to any suggestions that I made to ‘plus’ the ideas.”
Schaak and the Superlounge production team created the store’s exterior from scratch in one location and then shot the interiors at an existing store on a different day. “The client was terrific in terms of allowing us into their store and dressing things as needed,” adds the Director.
Well-known for his key eye for casting, Schaak notes that they initially found their young spokesperson from his stand-up routines on YouTube. “We had him audition via Skype where I worked with him remotely on his performance,” explains Schaak. “Essentially, he’s a very likable, high-energy guy who’s really smart and savvy. And that all comes across for him on screen.”
