STEELE Studios (formerly STEELE VFX), known for its wide variety of services including DI, Visual Effects, Graphics, Online and Beauty, has recently purchased new Quantel technology to provide dramatically faster RED One Camera workflows.
STEELE recently completed the transfer and color correction/DI work for the new ‘Rooms to Go‘ campaign featuring Cindy Crawford’s Bedroom Collections. The campaign, consisting of 12 spots, was directed by Sean Hanish of Cannonball Productions and shot entirely on the RED One camera at 4K.
STEELE used its Quantel Pablo to color correct and resize 5-6 hours of .r3d files on import which ultimately saved their client many hours of conversion time. “Our Pablo’s superb Dynamic Rounding and sizing technology can be used to finish 4K-originated projects at any resolution from SD to 4K at a much faster pace than most systems out there,” said Jerry Steele, STEELE Studios Creative Director.
“We were able to not only view, scrub and trim the .r3d files off the drives but also resize and adjust all of the parameters that were on the camera before and during the import process. This saved us countless hours of scaling and color correction that would normally have to be done after the import,” Steele added.
Quantel has also recently introduced complete integration of Final Cut Pro, allowing projects to move seamlessly between offline and online. With the addition of RED conform directly from the .r3d files on Pablo, it gives users dramatic advantages in finishing with both time and cost savings. “We are getting a massive surge in the number of post production projects that are shot on RED,” said Steele. “So RED conform builds on our system’s capability to fulfil every aspect of the project from color correction and editing to compositing and deliverables. It really is a facility in a box.”
