For aspiring commercial directors, presenting a reel of spots to industry VIPs is an opportunity that comes along all too rarely.
Now, Spec Bank, an online resource for commercial directors, has announced an event called On The Spot, a “Speed Dating” style event that will connect new directors with key members of top production companies and ad agencies for one-on-one reel review sessions.
Scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 7 PM, at 3Twenty Wine Lounge in Los Angeles, the event will take a “speed-dating” format: 15 selected directors will get seven minutes to present three commercials to an industry insider, receive input, and then move on.
Confirmed guest reviewers will include RSA Films, Partizan, Smuggler, B-Reel, DNA, Sherpa Pictures, General Editorial, City Films, Hoax Films, Superlounge, Ellen Knable & Associates, SpotLab’s Jeff Nicosia and ad agencies Deutsch and Saatchi & Saatchi, with more to be announced.
“Breaking into commercial directing is one of the most difficult, time-consuming and, let’s face it, expensive, goals in any field,” said Dan Sorgen, creator of Spec Bank. “Our ‘On The Spot’ event will provide directors with a rare opportunity to meet important decision-makers and receive personalized advice that can really help jump-start their careers.”
To be selected for the event, directors will be judged on the quality of their current reels. Participants must have three completed commercial spots.
