The Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel (MPSE) Awards and the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards are two of the most prestigious sound awards in the industry, dedicated to honoring outstanding achievement in sound editing and mixing in film, television, and across the entertainment industry. Sound Lounge– renowned artist-owned and operated audio post-production studio in New York City– is nominated for both awards for its Film+Television division’s work on the widely-popular FX comedy-drama “The Bear.”
As one of the most talked-about shows of 2022, “The Bear” stole the hearts of many, with sound being a leading component in the authentic storytelling of the show and helping bring it to life. Sound Lounge is nominated for an MPSE in Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Short Form for The Bear “Review,” recognizing Supervising Sound Editor, Steve “Major” Giammaria, Sound Effects Editor, Jonathan Fuhrer, Dialogue Editor, Evan Benjamin, Foley Editor, Annie Taylor and Foley Artist, Leslie Bloome, from the Film+Television division.
“We are incredibly honored to be nominated for an MPSE for our work on “The Bear”,” said Steve “Major” Giammaria, Supervising Sound Editor and Re-Recording Mixer at Sound Lounge. “We understand what an accomplishment this is within the industry and to be recognized amongst other distinguished studios is amazing. Our team worked tirelessly to bring this show to life and we’re all very proud of the final product.”
Take Two!
Sound Lounge is also nominated for a CAS in Television Series: Half Hour for “The Bear” S1:E7 “Review.” Those recognized include Production Mixer, Scott D. Smith, Re-Recording Mixer, Steve “Major” Giammaria, ADR Mixer, Patrick Christensen, Foley Mixer, Ryan Collison and Foley Mixer, Connor Nagy.
“Episode seven of the series was one of the most complicated to mix,” said Giammaria. “It was mostly filmed as a single unbroken shot, which was very tricky to maneuver sound-wise, but it allowed us to get creative in ways we aren't usually able to be. I’m so proud of our team for being nominated for a CAS, especially for this episode, which I know required a lot of outside-the-box thinking to give it the extra dimension it needed.”
