Sound Lounge– renowned artist-owned and operated audio post-production studio in New York City– has achieved remarkable success with its Film+Television division’s work on the widely popular FX comedy-drama “The Bear.” The division took home two Creative Arts Emmys over the weekend, one for Outstanding Sound Editing, and the other for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour).
“I know it’s a cliché, but I was honestly honored just to be nominated,” said Steve “Major” Giammaria, Supervising Sound Editor and Re-Recording Mixer at Sound Lounge. “To be mentioned in the same breath as the other nominated artists and shows is truly humbling. The win is a testament to the creative vision behind the show and the many amazing artists we were able to bring together for season one. Being such a dialogue-heavy show that can go from cacophonous to contemplative at the drop of a hat (or pan), Evan’s unmatched skill as a world-class dialogue editor was paramount to the successful execution of the producer’s vision.”
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are one of the most highly regarded by industry professionals, honoring the unsung heroes and behind-the-scenes contributors who play crucial roles in the success of a television show. “The Bear,” one of the most discussed shows since its inception, utilized sound to help bring this season to life and was a leading component in the storytelling of the series. Those from Sound Lounge’s Film+Television division awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Sound Editing include Supervising Sound Editor Steve “Major” Giammaria and Dialogue Editor Evan Benjamin. Giammaria was also recognized for his work on the series for Outstanding Sound Mixing. Other team members awarded were frequent Sound Lounge collaborators Sound FX Editor Jon Fuhrer, the Foley team at Alchemy Post, and Production Mixer Scott D. Smith.
“I’ve spent a good number of years in studios around New York, and I don’t think I’ve come across anyone doing this who is as talented as Major," said Benjamin. "Some people are good with the gear, some are good with the work, some are good with the people. He manages to cross off every one of those boxes, and to do it with a sense of fun and light-heartedness. Working with him has been one of the greatest pleasures of my career.
“We’re incredibly proud of the Film+Television division for their hard work on this series,” said Marshall Grupp, partner and COO. “Being recognized for our division’s outstanding sound mixing and editing is a testament to our team’s talent, hard work and dedication. We look forward to continuing this caliber of work for our clients in 2024 and are excited for what the future holds.”
Sound Lounge’s Film+Television division provides audio post-production services, including complete sound editorial, ADR, and mix, for feature films, documentaries, and television series. Giammaria and Benjamin were also awarded a Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel (MPSE) in 2023 for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing–Broadcast Short Form for “The Bear.”
