Sohonet, the global experts in connectivity, media services and network security for the media and entertainment industry, is introducing ClearView Pivot, a solution for real-time remote editing, colour grading, live screening and finishing reviews at full cinema quality. The new solution will provide connectivity and collaboration services for productions around the world and is currently being deployed by a major Hollywood studio.
ClearView Pivot offers 4K high dynamic range (HDR) with 12-bit colour depth and 4:4:4 chroma sampling for full-colour quality video streaming with ultra-low latency and is provided over the company’s uncontended private media network, which avoids the extreme compression required do to contention and latency of public Internet connections.
As a preferred provider of Hollywood studios, Sohonet has worked closely with major productions for over 20 years and began initial development of ClearView Pivot in concert with their clients. “Studios around the world need a real-time 4K collaboration tool that can process video at lossless colour fidelity utilising the industry-standard JPEG 2000 codec between two locations across a network like ours — avoiding the headache of the current ‘equipment only’ approach is the only scalable solution,” explains Chuck Parker, CEO of Sohonet.
ClearView Pivot offers ease of use combined with the high security required by global content studios as the only integrated solution approved by ISE (Independent Security Evaluators) – the industry’s gold standard for security posture. Sohonet’s unique solution provides an encrypted stream between each endpoint and provides an auditable usage trail for every solution. The SMN connection offers ultra-low latency (measured in milliseconds not seconds), and unlike equipment-only solutions that require the user to navigate firewall and security issues and perform a “solution check” before each session, ClearView Pivot ‘just works’ immediately every time. As a point-to-multipoint solution, the user can also ‘pivot’ easily from one endpoint to the next to collaborate with multiple people at the click of a button or even stream to multiple destinations at the same time.
Sohonet has been working closely with productions on lots and on locations over the past few years in the ongoing development of ClearView Pivot. In those real-world settings, ClearView Pivot has been put through its paces with trials across multiple departments, and the colour technologies have been fully inspected and approved by experts across the industry. Early adoption across the post community has been strong, and Sohonet is fulfilling orders for more than 70 locations around the globe.
ClearView Pivot is part of the ClearView product suite, which includes ClearView Flex and ClearView HD products.

Stephen Arnold Music Collaborates With WETA to Create a Memorable and Adaptable Sonic Brand
WETA Arts, the award-winning, magazine-style arts and culture series returns for its 10th season on the PBS flagship station with an elegant new sound. The latest collaboration between WETA, PBS’s Washington DC-based flagship station, and Stephen Arnold Music (SAM), the new music package reflects the show’s insightful take on DC’s diverse art scene in an understated and memorable way. “It’s a unique sound,” says WETA creative director Dylan Wilbur. “There’s a lovely calmness to it that perfectly complements the show’s new art deco visual look. I first listened to SAM’s demo while driving in my car. I hit play and instantly fell in love. I thought, wow, that’s beautiful.” WETA Arts is also the first show to leverage WETA’s first ever sonic branding. Created by SAM, the world leader in sonic branding, last year, the classically inspired signature sound is designed to give WETA a unified, instantly recognizable audio identity across each of its sub-brands and all touch points, broadcast and digital. It can be heard in different stylistic and mood treatments in promos, IDs, teasers and other marketing media for WETA PBS, WETA UK, WETA PBS Kids, WETA World, WETA Metro, and WETA Classical. “The sonic branding evokes our values: trust, intelligence, quality and enrichment,” observes Wilbur. “WETA is different from commercial broadcasters in that many of our viewers are also supporters. We wanted to convey the pride of ownership they feel for the station.” WETA’s sonic branding is also integrated into Signal in the Static, a longform spot celebrating the station’s historic leadership in news, documentary and educational programming. Airing in prime time through the fall political season, the spot features clips from... Read More
