Offering a snapshot in time with lasting influence and impact for the past 50 years, SHOOT Magazine’s “Directors Issues” have been the talk of the industry when first published and are referred to long after the issue date. They capture the leading directors of the time with detailed profiles, while also pinpointing new, up-and-coming directorial talent who bear watching.
The profiles are turned to for shedding light on the approaches, experiences and filmmaking philosophies of the industry’s most notable directors. Caleb Deschanel
Just honored with the American Society of Cinematographers Lifetime Achievement ward, is a five-time Best Cinematography Oscar nominee for “The Right Stuff”, “The Natural”, “Fly Away Home”, “The Patriot” and “The Passion of the Christ”. He has also earned an array of credits as a director of motion pictures, TV Programs and commercials.
Shawn Kim
Music Videos were the springboard propelling Kim into a well rounded career in commercials. Recent projects include Kayak.com, Motorola, New York Lottery, U.S. Census, LG and ESPN. Kim continues to be active in music videos.
Eric Steelberg
has enjoyed a close-knit working relationship with director Jason Reitman spanning features and commercials collaborating on “Juno” and this year’s multiple Oscar nominee “Up in the Air”. Steelberg also shot “(500) Days of Summer”, the acclaimed romantic comedy marking the feature filmmaking debut of Marc Webb, a noted music video and spot director (Webb will be profiled in the “Leading Directors” profile section in this issue)
SHOOT “Prelude to 50th Anniversary” Series
3rd in the series of special “Then, Now & Looking Ahead” features that kicked off in December 2009 and will continue through November 2010 when SHOOT publishes its Special 50th Anniversary Issue. Joe Pytka of PYTKA
Pytka has seen and accomplished much in his ongoing career, including winning the DGA Award as best commercial director of the year three times while earning 15 nominations, both all-time highs in the history of the DGA competition.
Bryan Buckley of Hungry Man
Buckley is a past winner of the DGA Award as best commercial director of the year, and has been nominated for that coveted honor three times in his career.
