SGL, a leading provider of content archive and storage management software for media and entertainment, is announcing a number of new technology and key third-party integration projects at IBC 2015 on stand 7.J15a. SGL’s Open System Architecture provides broadcasters, post production facilities, and news/sport organisations with reliable, scalable solutions with substantial cost and workflow benefits.
SGL is presenting Direct Connect for the Avid ISIS environment at IBC 2015. Direct Connect allows Avid ISIS users to quickly transfer high resolution material providing significant benefits when working with longer form content. The advent of 4k and 8k formats has made a huge difference in terms of clarity of image, but the sheer size of files can cause bottlenecks, reducing transfer times and hindering system performance. Now, using Direct Connect, clips or sequences over several GBs in size can be archived and retrieved significantly faster, as can shorter clips with high bit rates such as HD trailers and commercials.
Cloud storage is playing an increasing role within archiving workflows. At IBC 2015, SGL will showcase cloud-based archiving to Amazon’s S3 and Sony’s Ci Cloud services. Working closely with Aspera and Data Expedition, SGL enables broadcasters and content owners to transfer media to AWS services and Sony cloud services at a guaranteed speed, providing an additional means of storage and disaster recovery workflows.
Throughout the show, SGL will demonstrate a full archive using GV STRATUS, hosted by a Grass Valley presenter. A highly intuitive solution, GV STRATUS includes full search, archive and restore integrated directly with SGL’s FlashNet archive. The presentation will include FlashNet’s control of job queues directly from GV STRATUS.
The migration of tape assets from one platform to another, or from one generation to another is a costly and time-consuming process. At IBC, SGL is launching its FlashNet Migration Service, which enables a whole migration to be set up as a single background task that optimises the use of available archiving equipment and speeds up processes. This reduces migration times by half.
“SGL is dedicated to providing broadcasters and content owners large and small with flexible archive systems that meet the requirements of their business. These latest announcements enhance FlashNet’s unrivalled capabilities for today’s video requirements,” explains Lee Sheppard, SGL’s Director of Product Management.
SGL will also be highlighting its Avid Web Services integration. Whilst the fully implemented Avid Interplay Archive provides a seamless user experience, smaller work groups may require a paired down version. SGL’s support for Avid Web Services means that customers can use the archive capabilities that they currently require, but can employ Avid Integrated Archive at any time in the future without the need to re-archive any content.
Other highlights being featured at the show include: a full archive demonstration via Avid Interplay PAM; support for LTFS; new version of FlashWeb with enhanced search capabilities and simplified navigation; and enhanced API with support for REST via new SGL web service.
