Nonfiction Unlimited, a commercial production company working with an exclusive roster of award-winning documentary filmmakers for commercials and documentary projects, announces today that Todd Selby, the photographer known as “The Selby,” has joined the company to direct spots and documentary shorts for advertisers.
“The Selby” originated in 2008 when Todd set out to photograph his friends in their personal environments, and began posting his work to his website (www.theselby.com) on a daily basis. Personal friends led to personal connections โ artists, actors, gallery owners, indie directors, designers and writers โ all photographed in their unusual and often surprising spaces.
Todd’s unique style and the website’s immense popularity (the site reaches up to 100,000 unique visitors a day) went on to attract the attention of major corporations word-wide and lead to numerous creative collaborations including his solo show and instillation at cult concept store Colette in Paris, where Todd embarked on a journey to photograph twenty people in just over a week’s time, including artist Xavier Veilhan, fashion design Karl Lagerfeld, pastry chef Pierre Herme and shoe designer Christian Louboutin.
He is currently a contributing editor to T: The New York Times Style Magazine with his regular column, "Edible Selby” featuring creative food and drink artisans around the world. Todd also regularly contributes to Vogue Paris, Casa Brutus, and Vogue Hommes International.
In addition to his editorial photography, Todd is much in demand for advertising projects. His photographic collaborations have included those for Louis Vuitton, Hennessy, Nike, CB2, Dockers, Cole Haan, among many others.
Todd brings his distinct artistic viewpoint to documentary filmmaking with his first short films, giving a glimpses into the creative lives of more interesting people: Chef and Beekeeper Andrew Field of Rockaway Taco, Artist Tom Sachs and Mitch Alfus, the Leather King. “I think that short doc films are a great way to dive into a person’s world. I’ve met so many interesting characters that it’s only natural for me to give a voice to these individuals through films and commercials.” says Todd.
“Todd’s work as a photographer translates beautifully into documentary films,” noted Nonfiction’s Executive Producer Loretta Jeneski. “Documentary photojournalism, but stylized. Perfect for the commercial world of short films and spots.”
Bicoastal production company Nonfiction Unlimited works with award-winning filmmakers on documentary projects for advertising agencies and advertisers. The company produces TV commercials and content, webisodes and documentaries for screens large and small.

“ฦvolution” Comes Full Circle At The Chelsea Film Festival
The Chelsea Film Festival, running from October 16th through October 20th, 2024, at Regal Cinemas here in Union Square, is set to host the East Coast premiere of ฦvolution, a thought-provoking experimental micro-short film that proves big ideas can come in small packages and in perfect circles.
In just 1 minute 16 seconds, this cinematic gem by Award-Winning Director Romina Schwedler, with original music by Argentine Composer Ignacio Montoya Carlotto, explores a cycle as old as time: life leads to progress, progress leads to destruction, and destruction, well, leads back to life. But is this vicious circle unbreakable? ฦvolutionย suggests the answer is yes, unless we decide to open our eyes.
Inspired by the overwhelming number of recent events that threaten human existence,ย ฦvolution, possibly the shortest film in this 12th edition of the festival, plays out entirely through the symbolism of circles, cleverly illustrating โin the blink of an eyeโ the repeating patterns of history, and confronting viewers with the uncomfortable truth that our so-called โprogressโ may, in fact, be guiding us to our own ruin.Premiering at the Regal 14 Union Square, New York City, on October 18, 2024, at 11 a.m., Romina Schwedler's micro-short, featuring Leah Young with cinematography by Alan J. Carmona, will be sure to spark conversations longer than the film itself! Forcing viewers to reconsider the true meaning of evolution, not just as a biological process, but as a reflection of our collective journey as humans.
With a string of festival appearances across the globe, including CineGlobe at CERN (Switzerland/France), Oscarยฎ... Read More
