Director Robin Phillips’ indie sci-fi adventure Valiant will screen as part of the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival held in conjunction with Comic-Con International San Diego 2014. The screening is scheduled for July 26th at 6:15 p.m. at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina and will be followed by a panel discussion.
The panel discussion will include Writer-Director and USC alumni Robin Phillips, lead actor Gil Darnell (CW's Reign), actor Navid Neghaban (Homeland, American Sniper), actor Camden Toy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Miniature Effects Supervisor Fon Davis (Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar, Star Wars: Episodes 1-6), Writer Scott Baba, Producer Shyam Sundar Sengupta, and Executive Producer Alex Maclean.
A swashbuckling tale, Valiant tells the story of three air pirates who embark on a dangerous mission after discovering a lost child princess who may hold the ticket to their freedom.
The film features studio-quality visual effects accomplished primarily through the use of miniatures, matte paintings, and practical pyrotechnics. The film was finished at 4K (UHD) resolution. The project has been covered by Cinefex and other leading trade periodicals for its intrepid work on a micro budget.
Valiant’s producers are currently developing a feature film franchise set in the same world as well as an episodic series and interactive media content. “Valiant is an amazing and ambitious project,” says New Deal Studio’s Fon Davis. “It's a well-orchestrated adventure with outstanding production value. It’s like nothing you've seen before.”
