At-risk teens from across Los Angeles will learn filmmaking skills from Hollywood professionals as part of a unique two-day workshop sponsored by Burbank-based Rohde & Schwarz DVS and the nonprofit organization Hollywood HEART. Teens will receive training from industry veterans in cinematography, screenwriting, acting, editing and sound in the “Shooting Stars” workshop scheduled for May 4th and 5th. The event will yield three to four short films that will be showcased at a red carpet theater screening on June 6th.
Rohde & Schwarz is sponsoring the event as part of its company-wide outreach initiative Strive Community. The company is a developer of hardware and software systems used worldwide in film and television production. Hollywood HEART is an 18-year-old nonprofit that provides opportunities for young adults affected by HIV/AIDS and other at-risk youth.
“As a longstanding member of the post production and broadcast industry, we are honored to partner with Hollywood HEART to give back to our local community,” said Rohde & Schwarz Inside Sales Manager Jill V. Wiles. “Working closely as a team, we have pledged to make ‘Shooting Stars’ as energizing as it is educational, opening new avenues for inspiration.”
“We are proud to partner with socially conscious minded companies like Rohde & Schwarz to steer at-risk students in the right direction,” adds Kara Mondino, Executive Director, Hollywood HEART.
The Shooting Stars workshop will be held at illuminate Studios (formerly HD Vision Studios), in Studio City. illuminate Studios is providing studio space, including a news set, a green screen and a kitchen stage, and staff who will serve as instructors. 27 Notch, a camera rental and production services company, is providing camera systems.
“We are very pleased to contribute to a wonderful educational experience benefitting young people who often lack such opportunities,” said illuminate CEO Jim Hardy. “These kids will have a chance to create a real project in a real, professional studio. We think it will provide a lasting impact.”
