The Commercials Group of Rodeo FX, a world leader in the creation of visual imagery for motion pictures and advertising, has produced the ad campaign promoting the 80th Season of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM). Rodeo FX’s client for this project was Canada’s Cossette Agency.

The OSM’s 80th Season ad campaign represents a clever example of how Rodeo FX has the ability to integrate its creative power across its various departments. To launch the process for the OSM campaign, an animatic was first produced by Rodeo’s new pre-visualization service. Then, with the help of its concept artists, Rodeo made it easy for Cossette to have a precise view of the motion designers’ creative intentions. The production then began with the particle specialists, with their work later comped in a linear image data type for the color grading session in Luster Premium suite. Rodeo’s Live Action VFX Unit also contributed to this project, providing lens flares for the shoot.
“Our process for the OSM campaign represents a highly efficient way to use our feature film pipeline for this type of ad. The agency was thrilled when we proposed our pipeline,” says Andrรฉ ร Montambeault, Rodeo FX’s Creative Director. “Like film dailies, the approval steps were easy, and even gave us time to be more creative as we had immediate feedback.”
In the 30-second spot, the viewer sees a parallax effect leading into the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s theater (a single image,) and Conductor Kent Nagano’s image as a 3D particle reproduction. These depictions were very sensitive for Maxime Landreville, Cossette’s Art Director, and for Thimalay Sukhaseum, Cossette’s Copywriter. They said, “Rodeo’s Computer Graphics and Motion Design departments really rose to the challenge and created fantastic transitions seen within this piece.”
