A :30 television spot and multiple radio spots produced by Red Truck Films and Blazing Music+Sound for non-profit Wake Enterprises won first place in the category of Public Service Campaign in the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) 2009 Club Achievement Awards.
The TV spot was shot at the Golden Belt in Durham, N.C., on the RED camera, a high performance digital cine camera with the quality of 35mm film and convenience of pure digital.
The campaign features real people who are employees of Wake Enterprises, a private, non-profit organization that supports vocational and social development of adults with developmental disabilities. The TV spot can be viewed at http://redtruckfilms.com/wetv.html.
The Wake Enterprises campaign – which includes TV, radio, print, outdoor and interactive media – was spearheaded by the AAF Raleigh-Durham Chapter. It was judged against other AAF member work based on effective use of advertising techniques to support programs on behalf of public interests and/or community betterment. The project was a joint effort on the part of many creative professionals throughout the region.
Red Truck Films executive producer, Cathy Wilson, worked with director and editor, Josh Steadman, on the spot, with photography provided by Christopher Wilson. Blazing Music+Sound provided music and audio production for the TV and radio spots, with Eric Johnson as executive producer and Aaron Keane as composer and sound engineer.
“There were an incredible number of moving parts to this project, said Mike Allen, president of the AAF-RDU chapter and creative director at Craig Jackson & Partners, “not the least of which was coordinating the schedules of the Wake Enterprises clients, arranging a shoot location, arranging travel for the clients to and from the location, and helping make sure the day went as seamlessly as possible for the special needs adults and their families. Without the support of the Red Truck production team, none of this would have been remotely possible.
“When we debuted the commercials for the AAF-RDU members and the Wake Enterprises staff and participants, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” said Allen. “The work is beautiful, touching and expertly produced.”
