6 of the 10 short films selected as finalists this week in the Queensland Short Film Competition, an event run through the Brisbane International Film Festival which is held in August, are short films made by QPIX, Queensland’s screen development centre.
Executive Director Mr Kerry O’Rourke says that ‘We’re very proud of the work we do at QPIX and it’s marvelous to see our filmmakers are getting such recognition for their work. 6 QPIX films in the finals of the Queensland Short Film Competition (QSFC) is a great achievement.’
The 6 QPIX films are ‘My Little King’, ‘Tough Love’, ‘Carnies’, ‘Seersucker’, ‘Narenjak’ and ‘Lost and Found’. O’Rourke says that ‘QPIX plays a key role in developing and facilitating the production of these films with the assistance of the Pacific Film and Television Commission and Screen Australia. ‘
‘Amazingly’ says O’Rourke ‘of the remaining 4 films that made the QSFC finals, 3 have been made by filmmakers who also work on QPIX films: Marty Moynihan, Martha Goddard and Sara Kidd. Both Marty and Martha have already won multiple awards with their past QPIX films. ‘
O’Rourke says that ‘QPIX is building and strengthening the film and TV industry through providing training through production experience. We have created a system that offers production experience for all levels of filmmakers. For beginners and mid-level filmmakers QPIX has industrial film and TV courses and for advanced filmmakers QPIX offers production experience on short films, documentaries and features as well as intense short courses and advanced workshops. This breadth of experience becomes a body of work for their show reel and that’s where their career can really take off.’
