After walking the red carpet, President Barack Obama (or rather President Barack “Faux-Bama”) accepted the “Best Writing” Award last night during the 17th Annual Webby Awards presentation at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on behalf of LA-based Stun Creative. The “Best Writing” Award was for Stun’s 2012 online comedy series “Presidential Clippings.” The five-word acceptance speech (a limit required by the Webby Awards organization) delivered by Stun Creative’s honorary President Barack Faux-Bama, “After-party at my Place!” was received with raucous applause.

The much talked-about “Presidential Clippings” digital series was created by award-winning advertising agency Stun Creative. Media coverage of “Presidential Clippings” during Fall 2012 was massive, and included feature articles in the New York Times, Ad Age, The Huffington Post, Yahoo! News, Creativity, and even on MSNBC’s “Hardball” TV series with Chris Matthews.

The premise behind “Presidential Clippings” was as follows: During their 2012 presidential campaign runs, President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney actually shared a barber. With “hidden cameras” placed within the barbershop, the comedy series presented what the two candidates “might” have dished about, when they didn’t think cameras or bystanders were around to notice.
Shot and edited using strategic framings and blocking, the “Presidential Clippings” 10-part series kept pace with all the news of the unpredictable 2012 election season, as well as with concurrent pop culture happenings. From Clint Eastwood’s now infamous “empty chair,” to the Gangnam-style phenomenon of “Psy,” to Brad Pitt’s Chanel No5 commercial, and even to a “Who’s On First?” exchange about the boy band “One Direction” and MTV’s VMA Awards telecast, Stun Creative’s “Presidential Clippings” left no stone unturned.
