The political satire the Huffington Post called "The year's funniest political mockumentary," RON AND LAURA TAKE BACK AMERICA, is coming to VOD across North America on Amazon Prime and iTunes one week before election day, November 1, 2016 via Undisclosed Location Films. The award-winning comedy is directed by, written by, and stars Mel England and Janice Markham as proud, proactive Conservatives Ron and Laura Grawsill – a quick-tempered man and his befuddled wife – who decide to take their country back from Obamacare and liberal Hollywood values.
With the nation embroiled in clash of Trump vs. Clinton, “Ron and Laura Take Back America” is an irreverent and hilarious take on the many issues that currently unite and divide us. In the mockumentary style of “Waiting for Guffman” and “Best in Show,” the political satire follows the exploits of a hapless conservative suburban couple who decide to take their country back from the dangers of Obamacare, immigration reform, and gay marriage. But when the “culture wars” land right in their own backyard – a gay son, an undocumented immigrant housekeeper, a Muslim-American doctor – Ron and Laura have to double down on their convictions if they’re going to save their son and the country that they love.
Written and directed by the comedy team of Mel England (Little Big Top) and Janice Markham (Mostly Kosher), the film also stars Golden Globe® Best Actress Nominee Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Jim J. Bullock (Hollywood Squares), features a celebrity cameo by Academy Award® Best Actress Nominee Sally Kirkland, and is executive produced by Tony® Award winning producer Sue Vaccaro (Clybourne Park), Jay Hopkins (Best Day Ever) and Neal Rubinstein (Broadway’s On The Town).
“Ron and Laura are trying to take their country back from everything. It’s funny, when we were shooting who would have predicted how far things would go, but it really is perfect for right now,” said England. Janice Markham added, “We are hoping that ‘Ron and Laura’ will inject a bit of levity during a difficult and even contentious election season". The project marks a first-time collaboration of Markham and England’s respective production companies, Vox Box Entertainment and Magical Iguana Productions.
“Ron and Laura Take Back America” premiered in both New York and Los Angeles in its theatrical release in March of 2016. The film enjoyed quite a winning streak on the festival circuit, having garnered a total of 16 awards and nominations, including “Best Comedy,” “Best of Festival," “Best Director” (England & Markham) and “Best Actress” (Markham) at Indie Fest USA. Earlier in 2014, the film also won “Best Comedy” at the New York City International Film Festival, and earned nominations for “Best US Narrative Feature” and “Best Actor” (England). At Idyllwild, the film also earned nominations for the Mary Austin Women in Film Awards for "Best Director" and "Best Screenplay" (Markham), and "Excellence in Producing" (Markham, Vaccaro and Bedard) at the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema in January.
The award-winning comedy will be available on Amazon Prime and iTunes across North America, and on DVD worldwide, on November 1, 2016.
