<a href="www.point360.com.>Point.360 IVC/Digital Film Center, a full service digital mastering facility known for its technical excellence over 25 years, has launched A.R.T. โ Advanced Restoration Tools. A.R.T. is innovative and like no other grain and noise reduction process currently available. This process is scalable depending upon the source elements and ultimate goal of the client. It is subjective and the integrity of the original source is taken into full consideration prior to embarking on a project. Unlike other systems, the picture does not lose sharpness once the grain or noise has been reduced.
As the industry has evolved its current state of movie preservation to promote film classics in Blu-ray, the need for grain and noise reduction technology has expanded. Through A.R.T. these classic and historic titles now are able to come to the forefront for a wider audience.
Sean McKee, Director of Restoration at Point.360, explains, “Grain and noise reduction, much like color correction, is a subjective process. Our philosophy is to collaborate together with the client to achieve their desired look and assist in enabling technical delivery.”
Point360 IVC Digital Film Center was approached to review the last concert film footage of Tupac Shakur at the House of Blues. With the crowd swaying in one direction and Tupac moving in the other as well as underexposure, this was a prime test to utilize A.R.T.. The film grain was minimized resulting in an expanded market for footage never seen before.
Recently completed was the 4K restoration of “Predator” which has a commanding performance from Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Our industry is evolving and there are more outlets for content,” states McKee. “The challenge now is to treat and restore older footage for today’s emerging marketplace, yet maintain the original source and creators’ intent. We now have our Advanced Restoration Tools to move more classics forward. ”
