Sean McKee, Director of Restoration & New Technology at Point.360 Digital Film Labs, will be giving a technology preview of the soon-to-be released Visionaryโข Archive system in the FilmLight hospitality suite – the Paramount Room at the Renaissance Hotel. Demonstrations will be available all day April 11th and 12th, and by appointment on the 13th and 14th.
FilmLight announced the partnership at IBC 2010 to provide distribution of Point.360 Digital Film Labs’ (formerly IVC) revolutionary Visionaryโข Archive technology to all countries outside of the United States.
Visionaryโข Archive is based on an entirely new technology for the archiving of colour motion images. It is a unique process using only a single strip of black-and-white film as opposed to the traditional YCM (yellow, cyan, magenta) 3-strip separations, and is also a long-term archival alternative to volatile data migration. Combining the longevity of human readable black-and-white film with the latest in digital processing algorithms, significant cost savings can be achieved while offering superior image quality and stability.
FilmLight co-founder Wolfgang Lempp comments that “FilmLight is built on the combination of film and digital technology. There is much more to it than capture and distribution, as can be seen with Visionary Archive. This partnership brings together the best of both worlds and is an ideal fit to our existing range of products”.
Mr. McKee adds, “The future of our history is now. We’re excited to be working with FilmLight on this project, as the combination of our technology along with the AatonK recorder and Northlight 2 scanner provides the highest quality, total package solution for studios and archive facilities worldwide concerned with preserving our motion picture heritage for future generations to study and enjoy. We’re also looking forward to feedback from interested facilities as to how the upcoming system can integrate into their existing workflows, so as to be able to add finishing touches to tailor the system to real world needs.”
