Free video conference slated for Thursday, June 30 at 4:00pm EDT
In advance of its summer hiatus, Post Break, Post New York Alliance’s free webinar series, will present a special session on the relationship between editors and their assistants. Two veteran editor/assistant teams will discuss how they work together and how their respective roles support each other.
Editor Katie Ennis and her assistant Julie Kreinik will describe their work on such projects as Dexter: New Blood and City on a Hill as well as their current project, the Hulu musical comedy Up Here. Editor Shelly Westerman and her assistant Payton Koch will talk about editing American Crime Story, Pose and Ratched, as well as the current Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.Takeaways will include advice on how aspiring editors and assistant editors can manage their careers to advance in the art and the business. Attendees are encouraged to submit their own questions to the panelists.

Speakers
- Katie Ennis is a New York City-based filmmaker and member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild. As a narrative editor, her work has screened on prime-time television, major streaming outlets and prestigious film festivals. Her credits include the series Dexter: New Blood, The Americans and City on a Hill, as well as the independent films Sister Aimee (2019 Sundance) and Lost Holiday (2019 Slamdance). She is currently editing Up Here, a musical comedy for Hulu by writer Steven Levenson and director Thomas Kail, with music from Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. She began her career in the production department as a set PA on big-budget films and TV shows such as Mildred Pierce, Knight and Day, Boardwalk Empire and Gossip Girl. She is a passionate storyteller who deeply understands and values the collaborative process of filmmaking from development to post. She holds a BS in Film and Television Production from Boston University.
- Julie Kreinik is a Brooklyn-based Assistant Editor, working in the film and television industry since 2016 following a career as an art historian. She has assisted Katie Ennis for the past four years on union scripted series such as Dexter: New Blood, City on a Hill and Sweetbitter. Julie and Katie currently work together on the new Hulu musical comedy series Up Here.
- Shelly Westerman’s work in feature films includes Nora Ephron’s You’ve Got Mail and Julie & Julia as well as independent favorites Velvet Goldmine and Jesus’ Son. She ventured into television with HBO’s acclaimed series The Wire. Her work with prolific showrunner Ryan Murphy garnered her an Emmy nomination for American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Other Murphy projects include Feud, American Horror Story, Pose, The Politician and Ratched. As Editor and Producer, she completed the Netflix series Halston, starring Ewan McGregor as the renowned fashion designer. She’s currently finishing Season 2 of Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building.
- Payton Koch graduated from Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in 2018 with a BFA in Film Production emphasizing in Film Editing. He started his professional career as a Post-Production Assistant on Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story. He was quickly promoted to Assistant Editor on other Murphy projects such as The Politician, Ratched, American Crime Story and The Boys in the Band. He is currently wrapping Hulu's Only Murders in the Building while earning his first Editor credit on two episodes.

Jamie Kirkpatrick has built a diverse filmography over his two decades in the film industry, including Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Lost in Translation, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete (one of Michelle Obama's favorite films) and the critically-acclaimed indie hit, My Friend Dahmer. Recent editing credits include We Summon the Darkness, the critically-acclaimed Critical Thinking, directed by and starring John Leguizamo, and the Venice Film Festival stand-out western Old Henry.

The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) IATSE Local 706 will debut the highly anticipated new award category, Broadway International, to their awards ceremony on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, presented by Giovanni Eco Chic Beauty. The new category will expand the recognition of outstanding Make-Up and Hair Styling Artists to encompass all live theater productions, including Broadway International live productions. With the addition of Broadway International, the ceremony will now shine a spotlight on beloved theatrical productions from around the world, recognizing the hard work and creativity of Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists in this genre.
