Bicoastal Oink Ink Radio is making space on its already crowded award shelves for several new industry honors. The radio company was recently awarded a Bronze Lion from the Cannes International Advertising Festival for a Durex Condoms spot produced for MacLaren McCann/Toronto. Entitled “Dinner/Movers” the humorous ad was originally killed by the client, only to find new life courtesy of Oink Ink‘s Dead Radio Contest last year. Ironically, the client went on to air the spot. Written by Brendan Sack of MacLaren McCann, it was the winner of the 2007 contest. The spot has also been recognized by the ADDY’s and NY Festivals.
“If you told me before I submitted these scripts for Oink’s Dead Radio contest that they’d end up winning a Cannes Lion, I would have given you a blank look and called you crazy” said Sack. “When I found out we’d won I was ecstatic – not just because it’s a huge, huge honor – but because it meant I’m not crazy either.”
Oink Ink also earned a silver Effie, a Mercury Radio Finalist and two Promax Awards for its promo work.
The Effie was awarded for a television spot produced by JWT Detroit for Oakwood Healthcare System entitled “A Marketing Emergency.” Oink Ink directed the audio and sound design. “This award is particularly exciting win because the Effies measure the actual effectiveness of a commercial”, says Dan Price, president of Oink Ink. “There’s really no contest quite like it.” According to the official website, Effies are for “Ideas that Work – the great ideas that achieve real results and the strategy that goes into creating them.”
Oink Ink‘s work for CBS Television Distribution and quiz show Jeopardy has been recognized with countless awards over the years; this year being no different. A spot for Jeopardy’s annual “Tournament of Champions” was honored at the Mercury Awards in March, and again at the recent Promax/BDA Awards. Oink Ink also took home a Promax Bronze for another Jeopardy radio commercial.
