While many online advertisers and their agency partners are reeling from recent announcements from Google and many others that are effectively killing-off Adobe Flash, Detroit-based interactive design studio Picnic New Media continues breaking new ground. In the past several weeks, the group's latest project for Team Detroit and the Ford F150 launched, reportedly becoming the first HTML5 ad in history to appear on MSN's U.S. homepage.
"Knowing that browsers were going to be ending support for Flash ads, we set out to find a partner that fully understands HTML5 and has the expertise to complete time-sensitive projects," said Christian Colasuonno, Team Detroit Executive Producer. "At Picnic, we found both."
Colasuonno continued, "We've spent years working on a formula with analytics and ad ops that we feel best maximizes our creative. Picnic has made sure that it all still works, regardless of how it's built."
Expanding its innovative history in pioneering mobile and web development, Picnic has positioned itself as a go-to HTML5 production house. Following-through on project work like its 2012 Cannes Lions Bronze Award-winning http://YourGED.org website for DDB Chicago and The Ad Council, Picnic earned its certifications in Google’s DoubleClick Studio Core, HTML5, and QA in 2013. Through that process, Picnic's HTML5 units integrating with Google Maps and a custom store locator for Ford Motor Company earned high praise from Google. Since then, Picnic has continued to heavily invest in these capabilities.
"Historically, Flash enabled us to create incredibly interactive visual experiences, but as soon as we saw how much of the mobile market couldn’t see it, we started changing," said Joe Sciacchitano, Picnic's co-founder and development lead. "Not only are we adept at using HTML5, we consider ourselves to be at the forefront of HTML5 innovation. It’s extremely gratifying to see these investments leading us and our clients to new levels of success."
