Oink Ink, the New York City creative shop, has just wrapped up production on two radio spots for Los Angeles-based CBS Television Distribution to promote the upcoming Jeopardy! IBM Challenge, which begins February 14.
Featuring Jeopardy!’s host Alex Trebek, the spots celebrate the return of Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, two of the show’s most formidable contestants ever, as they prepare to face Watson, the IBM computer built expressly to play Jeopardy! at the highest level. Containing over 200 million pages of text, Watson analyzes and cross-references clues in language and context to arrive at a single answer in about 3 seconds, only “buzzing” if it’s reasonably certain it’s correct.
Jennings and Rutter are two of the most elite game show contestants of all time. Ken Jennings has racked up a record 74 consecutive Jeopardy! victories, while Brad Rutter has won more than $3 million in prize money on the show. Together, they pose a worthy challenge to Watson’s abilities – and represent the best test of just what the machine is capable of.
Clips from these champions’ most exciting moments on the show are woven into the spots, making it clear this isn’t a Jeopardy! event to be missed. The new spots also feature the talent of Bill Graves and Johnny Gilbert, two of radio and television’s most recognized voices. Graves has lent his voice to countless national radio campaigns for some of the nation’s largest advertisers, and Gilbert has been Jeopardy!’s announcer since 1984.
Price brothers Dan and Jim of Oink Ink wrote, cast, directed and produced the spots for longtime client CBS Television Distribution, the syndication group behind other popular shows including Wheel of Fortune, for which Oink also creates radio.
"This event is a big deal for us. And so, as always, we go to Oink Ink for the big idea. They’ve never not delivered,” said Swampy Hawkins, Creative Director at CBS Television Distribution.
Jeopardy’s IBM Challenge will air in three parts on February 14, 15, and 16.
