Commercial production company Nonfiction Unlimited is proud to announce that films from two of the company’s directorsโStacy Peralta‘s MADE IN AMERICA, and Steve James‘ AT THE DEATH HOUSE DOOR, have been named to the short list for Academy Awardยฎ consideration for Best Documentary.
Stacy Peralta‘s documentary MADE IN AMERICA premiered at the 2008 Sundance film festival. The film is a look at the decades-long gang strife in South Central Los Angeles and talks directly to former and current members of the Crips and Bloods to expose the many misconceptions about their lives. MIA is Stacy’s third documentary, which follows his 2001 Sundance Award winning DOGTOWN AND Z-BOYS about extreme skateboarding and his big wave surfing film RIDING GIANTS.
Steve James‘ documentary, co-directed with Peter Gilbert, AT THE DEATH HOUSE DOOR was the winner of the Inspiration Award at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. This powerful film takes an intimate look at the death penalty at the infamous “Walls” prison unit in Huntsville, Texas through the eyes of death house Chaplin Pastor Carroll Pickett. James’ previous award winning documentaries include the Sundance Awardยฎ winners HOOP DREAMS (1995) and STEVIE (2002).
