NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) announced today finalists for its inaugural competitive program “On Location: The Los Angeles Video Project.”
After culling through numerous submissions, NFMLA tapped 22 finalists to premiere their works on Saturday, May 21st, 7p.m., at Sunset Gower Studios. The evening will also include the Jury and Audience Choice Awards presentation and reception in honor of all the finalists.
Created with the support of LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, LA Weekly, and Sunset Gower Studios, the On Location program challenges filmmakers to showcase the many attributes of the city of Los Angeles in four minutes or less.
The program is the brainchild of William Karz, Director of Online Marketing at LA INC. and NFMLA Executive Director Larry Laboe.
“On Location was created to enlist LA’s remarkable pool of filmmakers and photographers to act and serve as Ambassadors of Los Angeles by giving these artists an opportunity to share what they call their LA– an insider perspective into this diverse, cosmopolitan city and its neighborhoods,” said Karz.
Laboe added, “We are thrilled with both the response to our competition and with the quality of submissions we received. Given the number of enormously talented filmmakers in Los Angeles who participated, it was an extremely difficult task to pare down our list of finalists.”
The LA INC. Grand Prize winner will receive an Equilibrium Entertainment Production Package valued at $100,000 in addition to $1,000 cash. First Prize and Audience Choice winners will be presented by the LA Weekly and Steven J. Wolfe (Producer, 500 DAYS OF SUMMER). Winners will receive cash prizes as well as staycation packages provided by the W Hollywood.
Select videos will also be featured through the online and social media channels of the LA Weekly (www.laweekly.com), LA INC. (www.discoverLosAngeles.com), and NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (www.newfilmmakersla.com) which have a combined audience reach of more than 14,000,000.
