Sound Lounge – renowned artist-owned and operated audio post-production studio in New York City – has won a Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing–Television Series Half Hour–for its Film+Television division’s work on the second season of widely-popular FX comedy-drama “The Bear.”
“Winning a CAS for our work on 'The Bear' is an incredible honor,” said Steve “Major” Giammaria, Supervising Sound Editor and Re-Recording Mixer. “Our team is so proud to be part of such a unique show that really thinks about using sound as a storytelling tool. The creatives plan for it, starting from the script through production and post, allowing us to use all the creative tools at our disposal to elevate the story for the audience.”
โโThe CAS award celebrates the hard work and immense talent of sound mixers on the year’s most impressive movies and television series. It pushes the recognition of sound as a major contributor to the field of motion picture and television entertainment.
'The Bear' employs this capablity for audio to drive the narrative. The CAS was awarded to S2:E7 “Forks,” a delicate episode that was pivotal to Richie’s character arc. ADR Mixer Patrick Christensen and Giammaria were recognized from the Film+Television Division. Production Mixer Scott D. Smith and Foley Mixer Ryan Collison from the extended team were also recognized.
“In Forks, we finally get to see Richie come into his own and beat his fears and own expectations of himself," said Christensen. “From an ADR standpoint, it's always so important to help guide the actors back to the performance they did on set, so we don't lose any of that emotion and intent. Understanding the ebbs and flows of the scenes allows me to give direction to the actors to get back to that place on the ADR stage.”
This marks a robust awards season for Sound Lounge. Earlier this year, “The Bear” earned two Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour). Sound Lounge was also nominated for a MPSE for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing–Broadcast Short Form– for S2:E6 “Fishes.”
