New Hat is pleased to welcome additions to the production and creative departments of their thriving color house. Greg Laube joins New Hat as Executive Producer and Santiago Padilla is a key addition to the roster of talented colorists.
Greg Laube arrives with senior level experience in nearly every facet of commercial postproduction – editorial, vfx, sound, and now with New Hat – color. Beginning his career as an esteemed editor, Greg opened Laube-Roth & Associates where he edited hundreds of award-winning commercial campaigns and music videos. In 1998, Greg launched further into his bourgeoning talent for management as the owner/Partner and Executive Producer of Brass Knuckles Editorial. There, Greg led the company to expand beyond commercial editorial offerings with the launch of a highly successful entertainment division. In 2005, Greg launched his next venture as owner and Executive Producer of Venice-based editorial house The Mission before most recently applying his administrative savvy to post’s audio division as the Director of Business Development for Margarita Mix.
New Hat‘s Managing Director Marcelo Aprile notes,”From being an artist to a former AICE president and company owner, Greg brings a spectrum of decades-long experience to the role of Executive Producer. Since opening in 2008, New Hat has been on an upward trajectory because of our non-linear workflow and command of the newest digital camera formats like ALEXA and Epic. Greg understands the creative collaborations that happen in New Hat‘s color studios and is passionate about introducing our capabilities to the agencies and directors that have not yet walked through our doors. Greg is the ideal leader to have at the helm as we continue to expand.”
Also joining New Hat colorists Bob Festa, Beau Leon, Brandon Chavez, and Cory Berendzen is Santiago Padilla. Santiago immediately felt at home, having already known New Hat partners Beau Leon and Bob Festa from R!OT, where Santi was mentored as Bob’s Commercial Assistant before being promoted to Dailies Colorist. Most recently, Santiago was at Company 3 where he added feature work to his already impressive music video and commercial resume grading dailies for big-budget pictures such as Transformers 3 and X-Men: First Class.
Both Greg and Santiago echo excitement at the opportunity to join the New Hat team. Santiago will be helming the facility’s fourth Baselight-equipped studio, which supports native files as the source for extended color enhancement. Santiago elaborates, “Regardless of format, New Hat‘s Baselight workflows are technically seamless – anything in and anything out. The facility was truly created as a colorist’s dream: the calming vibe of the space, the support team of producers, and the state-of-the-art technology driven by the industry’s top colorists…these factors make grading at New Hat virtually limitless.”

“Ǝvolution” Comes Full Circle At The Chelsea Film Festival
The Chelsea Film Festival, running from October 16th through October 20th, 2024, at Regal Cinemas here in Union Square, is set to host the East Coast premiere of Ǝvolution, a thought-provoking experimental micro-short film that proves big ideas can come in small packages and in perfect circles.
In just 1 minute 16 seconds, this cinematic gem by Award-Winning Director Romina Schwedler, with original music by Argentine Composer Ignacio Montoya Carlotto, explores a cycle as old as time: life leads to progress, progress leads to destruction, and destruction, well, leads back to life. But is this vicious circle unbreakable? Ǝvolution suggests the answer is yes, unless we decide to open our eyes.
Inspired by the overwhelming number of recent events that threaten human existence, Ǝvolution, possibly the shortest film in this 12th edition of the festival, plays out entirely through the symbolism of circles, cleverly illustrating —in the blink of an eye— the repeating patterns of history, and confronting viewers with the uncomfortable truth that our so-called “progress” may, in fact, be guiding us to our own ruin.Premiering at the Regal 14 Union Square, New York City, on October 18, 2024, at 11 a.m., Romina Schwedler's micro-short, featuring Leah Young with cinematography by Alan J. Carmona, will be sure to spark conversations longer than the film itself! Forcing viewers to reconsider the true meaning of evolution, not just as a biological process, but as a reflection of our collective journey as humans.
With a string of festival appearances across the globe, including CineGlobe at CERN (Switzerland/France), Oscar®... Read More
