At 2015 NAB Show, The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) will sponsor a spirited panel discussion revealing the secrets behind the sound of the most provocative film of the year, Fifty Shades of Grey. Part of NAB’s Creative Master Series, “Fifty Shades of Sound” is slated for Monday, April 13th at 11:45 a.m., South Upper Hall, Room S220.
Moderated by Mix Magazine editor Tom Kenny, the panel will feature key members of the Fifty Shades of Grey sound team, Supervising Sound Editor Becky Sullivan, Supervising Sound Editor Kelly Oxford, Sound Re-Recording Mixer Anna Behlmer and Re-Recording Mixer Terry Porter, as well as Film Editor Debra Neil-Fisher. They will discuss director Sam Taylor-Johnson's vision for the film, the challenges the filmmakers faced in conjuring its unusual soundscapes and the cutting edge techniques and tools they used to get there.
“The MPSE takes great pride in hosting this very talented sound team, including MPSE members Becky Sullivan and Kelly Oxford,” said MPSE Treasurer Paul Rodriguez. “This is a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn tricks of the trade from master practitioners. I recommend it to all industry professionals especially those who care about the craft of sound.”
The MPSE hosts a number of Sound Shows delving into the craft of motion picture, television and game sound. The enormously popular events occur in various cities and venues throughout the year. The organization also conducts a variety of charitable and educational activities related to sound, and presents its annual Golden Reel Awards recognizing excellence in sound.
