Students made a strong showing in the competition with three graduates of Miami Art Schools, in California, New York and India, and a graduate from RMIT University in Australia winning high praise from judges. The school projects ranged from development of an app that helps visually-impaired persons navigate subways to a rebuild of Minecraft that encouraged relief efforts after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal.

Eugene Gao, a native of Singapore and a graduate of Miami Ad School, San Francisco, won for "Lantern," an application that uses Bluetooth and smartphones to help visually impaired people navigate subway stations. The project, done for a mobile advertising class, was called a “great marriage between technology and application.” Gao is now a New York-based freelance creative.

Soham Chatterjee, a graduate of Miami Ad School New York, and currently a copywriter with Leo Burnett, Chicago, won for "NFL International Tackle the Spectacle," designed to promote NFL 2015 matchups in London with displays in subway and train entrances on how American football is played.  “Great execution using the subway doors as a metaphor for being in the game,” wrote one judge. Art director on the project was Joaquin Alvarez Limon, a mechanical engineer-ad creative who is now with Saatchi & Saatchi in New York.

Rati Ghosh, Miami Ad School, Mumbai, was art director for "Minecraft Rebuild," done for the copywriting and art direction portfolio programs at the school and deemed “compelling” and “a brilliant idea” by judges. Ghosh is currently a creative intern at BBH New York. Dhanush Paramesh, a copywriter on the project, is a creative intern at Ogilvy & Mather in New York.

The RMIT project featured three young creatives -- Jack Elliott, James Bennett and Lochie Newham – who created "The Trojan Award," a fake award they promoted to agencies to get the agencies to look at their resumes. Elliott is now a junior copywriter at J. Walter Thompson Worldwide, Melbourne, where Newham is junior art director. Bennett is brand detective at Cummins & Partners, Melbourne. Best judge’s comment on this project was: “I’d hire these guys.”

The competition Best of Show Shortlist will be released Feb. 1.  A full list of winners is available at www.mobiusawards.com
