Filmmakers, athletes, and enthusiasts gathered in Salt Lake City to celebrate action sports culture at the 2012 GoPro <a href="www.x-dance.com.>X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival January 12-15th. <a href="www.mirrorfilms.tv.>Mirror Films Director Doug Walker won the “Best Story” Award for his film “Lost & Found.”
A Corduroy Films Production, “Lost & Found” is a poignant and cinematic gem evolved from discovering boxes of negatives at a flea market that sent Walker on a journey to find the photographers and characters in the images. Walker spent three years interviewing legends like Aaron Chang, Dan Merkel, and Bob Barbour—along with tracking down surfing legends like Larry Bertlemann and Buttons to hear their stories.
19 features films and 11 shorts were screened over the three-day festival with compelling Q&A answer sessions with filmmakers and athletes after each film.
On Sunday, January 15th, the filmmaker’s triumphs were lauded at the annual awards ceremony and closing party. Olympic commentator and former FUEL TV host Pat Parnell deftly emceed the awards, which were presented by athletes like local snowboarders Erin Comstock, Stevie Bell, and Cooper Hoffmeister; extreme skier Jeremy Nobis, uber athlete Shaun Palmer, epic skiers Brad Holmes and Julian Carr, long board skaters Louie Pilloni and James Kelly; US Snowboarding Halfpipe team member Kaitlyn Farrington, Nitro Circus’ Thrillbillies Johnny Riche and Crum; freeride mountain biker Eric Porter, former pro skater James Atkins, and the GoPro Bombsquad base-jumping maniacs.
