“Although there are many specialty courts, YO Court is unique in that the defendants are ages 18-25 and the families of the defendants must participate.” Stated Judge Kerns.nnThe evening kicked off with a commencement speech from Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who shared her hope for the future of these kids. Mayor Goodman commented on the strength of the Las Vegas Community to come together to work as a team and support our young folks. nnChief Justice Douglas praised not only Judge Kerns and his team, but the parents, the court system for supporting this innovative program and mostly the kids for working so hard….nnJudge Kerns spoke about the support of community businesses..” in the Book “Bowling Alone” they talk about Social Currency.. that is what companies like FiveSix Productions bring to the program.” “The word “no”, doesn’t exist in our commitment to YO COURT” added Rob Jax of FIVESIX Productions, a Las Vegas video production company and community supporter of the Yo Court Program.nnJudge Kerns was elected to the Las Vegas Municipal Court in 1997, and most recently won re-election in March of 2011. He helped create H.O.P.E. Court, which focuses on older habitual offenders. The program is one of the most unusual statewide, and Kerns’ involvement with his defendants is rare, said retired Judge Jackie Glass. "I’ve not heard of this level of involvement before," Glass said. "We’re fortunate to have programs like these; otherwise these people would be in our jails and prisons. Anything that the courts can do to intervene and give folks the tools to change their lives is a wonderful thing.nnFIVE SIX PRODUCTIONS is a full service video production company specializing in Film and TV production, commercials, corporate videos, web video, and social media.
