Persona Films, Inc., a New York-based production company, signs film and commercial director Karl Shefelman for worldwide spot representation.
Shefelman’s cinematic visual style is rooted in his experience as one of the world’s top storyboard artists. Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme and Barry Levinson are among the directors who trust their boards to Shefelman’s expertise. Among his recent projects are such films as “The Departed”, “American Gangster” and “The Devil Wears Prada”. This one-on-one collaboration with legendary directors has given Shefelman a deep understanding of visualizing from script to screen, shot by shot.
Shefelman’s short films have screened at numerous film festivals around the world. “Bill’s Seat”, his psychological thriller, won the Best Live Action Short award at St. Louis International Film Festival, while Shefelman’s half-hour period drama, “Elysian Fields”, was distributed internationally and sold to several European TV networks, including BBC-2.
As his film work demonstrates, Shefelman is extremely adept at working with actors and getting performances that are both realistic and emotional. But even a quick look at his :30 spec spot for Crain’s New York Business, entitled "Heartless", shows that Shefelman is also an extremely visual director whose framing and camera moves are very precise and effective.
Shefelman joins two other directors on Persona’s roster, Yan Vizinberg and Abigail Honor.
