Picture Shop, part of Streamland Media, announced that industry veteran James Cowan has been named managing director of Picture Shop Vancouver. Cowan reports to Streamland Media CEO Bill Romeo.
“James’ leadership experience and deep industry knowledge will be integral to Picture Shop’s continued growth,” says Romeo. “He brings creative experience, technical prowess and invaluable industry insight to the company. James shares our culture philosophy and that makes him a natural fit with the incredible team he is joining. They consistently raise the bar for customer service and quality; and those are also core values to James.”
A well-known and highly regarded executive, Cowan has spent over 20 years in the region’s post production market where he’s played a critical role in industry advancements including the establishment of High Dynamic Range (HDR). Most recently he was the general manager of Company 3 Vancouver and held the same role at Deluxe Entertainment Services Group prior to that. Early in his career, Cowan gained invaluable hands-on experience as an editor, finishing artist and director of digital intermediate services. He has built an impressive list of wide-ranging credits that includes The Man in The High Castle, It's All Gone Pete Tong, 50/50, and The Butterfly Effect, among many others.
“I'm incredibly excited to be part of the Picture Shop family,” says Cowan, “and I'm eager to collaborate with this talented team, many of whom I already know. There is a great deal of respect for the facility and its history. We look forward to offering an even wider range of services and sharing our capabilities with the rest of the world.”
Picture Shop Vancouver, formerly Finalรฉ Post, has been building upon its success with its diverse, talented roster of artists and the latest technologies. The recent acquisitions of Technicolor Post and SIM Digital have bolstered the increasing significance of Picture Shop with a global infrastructure and connected teams. Throughout the integration of Finalรฉ, during a time of incredible growth, Picture Shop Vancouver has maintained its unique character and creative ethos.
Cowan will be based at the Picture Shop facility on Columbia Street in Vancouver, which is also home to Ghost VFX, Streamland Media’s visual effects division. This is but one way Picture Shop clients benefit from the larger Streamland Media community with global services and talent, offering an ability to connect clients with services around the world. In addition to Vancouver, Picture Shop has locations in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and London, supporting filmmakers with the highest level of service and premier technology.
“Serving our clients and fostering our team powers everything we do,” adds Romeo. “And James shares that philosophy. Vancouver is a hotbed of creativity with so many productions shooting in the region year-round. Filmmakers who have been receiving exceptional services locally will now know that same outstanding service is extended globally. The flexibility that Picture Shop provides clients is essential in today’s climate.”
