INTERDUBS, the customizable client-approval and reel-building solution for production and post-production companies, was used by its client companies to gain client-approvals on 30 of the approximately 50 commercial spots which aired during NBC’s broadcast of Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, Feb. 1. According to published reports, nearly 90 million viewers watched this year’s Super Bowl broadcast.
Technology consultant Andreas Wacker, the owner of INTERDUBS, lists more than 60 production and post-industry companies worldwide among the clients of INTERDUBS. Many of these companies were involved in the creation of this year’s Super Bowl spots. Among the spots INTERDUBS‘ client companies contributed to, and used the INTERDUBS system to gain client approvals on, were several of the highest-rated spots from USA Today’s annual Super Bowl Ad Meter, including Budweiser “Circus” (edited by the Whitehouse), Cars.com “David Abernathy” (VFX/finished by MassMarket), Pedigree “Crazy Pets” (edited by the Whitehouse, VFX/finished by MPC), Pepsi “Refresh Anthem” (edited by Rock Paper Scissors, VFX/finished by (Method Studios), Bud Light “Meeting” (edited by the Whitehouse), Bud Light Lime “Summer of Sphere” (edited by the Whitehouse, VFX/finished by Brickyard VFX), and Coca-Cola “Heist” (produced by Psyop), among many others.
A former director of technology for leading LA visual effects companies Method Studios and a52, Wacker launched INTERDUBS in 2007. “Internet bandwidth, codec and hosting technologies as well as computers in general had gained considerable abilities by 2007. I felt that there was no solution that takes advantage of the potential paradigm shift of these abilities,” explained Wacker. “Companies often use home-grown systems, and while these do work, a lot of functionality and comforts get lost in this approach. When a system like INTERDUBS gets shared among 60 companies and more than 1,000 files get added each day, features and improvements will benefit everybody on a whole different scale.”
Many of INTERDUBS‘ clients readily share their appreciation for the system. “We’ve found INTERDUBS to be the fastest way to make quick reels and keep our clients up-to-date on the latest cut of a spot,” said Randy Brewer, executive producer at Revolution Pictures. “The system is very easy to use and extremely fast on uploads.”
“What I like about INTERDUBS is that it is an excellent part of, and integrates well into, our tapeless pipeline using wiretap,” said Mark Tobin, managing director of MPC-LA. “It is very easy for our producers to post work, and very easy for clients to use in their busy schedules.”
And in the words of Angus Wall, who together with his fellow Rock Paper Scissors editor Kirk Baxter is nominated for the Best Film Editing Oscarยฎ for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “There is no more forward-thinking person I know than Andreas, and this simple but powerful service is proof of that.”
Wacker sends his sincere congratulations to each of his clients involved in work for Super Bowl XLIII, and his appreciation to each of his valued customers worldwide.
