The “Real Husbands of Hollywood: BBQ Acts I and II” featuring Samuel L. Jackson and starring comedian Kevin Hart, marks the second comedy collaboration between Hybrid Edit, Robot Film and the BET Networks. Hybrid’s Adam Epstein served as creative editor for the promos, which aired in two parts during the BET Awards last month. Hybrid Executive Producer, Gail Butler, made the announcement.
The hilarious content was shot in one day at a private residence in Brentwood and features Kevin Hart hosting a cookout for some of his closest celebrity friends: Anthony Anderson, Faizon Love, Fabolous, and an unexpected drop-in by Jackson. Epstein began editing on set to accommodate the 48-hour turnaround. Cutting continued at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles with Director Chris Robinson of Robot Film, writer Christopher Spencer and the President of BET Networks, Stephen G. Hill. Also in attendance were Hybrid Assistant Editors Daniel Spencer and Brian Bonus, Post Producer Patricia L. Gold and Executive Producer Gail Butler.
Hybrid’s team of talented artists, including Editor Jeffrey McHale (who served as After Effects finish artist), worked non-stop for the promos to air live during the BET Awards Show. Hybrid handled all finishing duties in-house including color grading, online, VFX, graphic design and final mix (using Lustre, After Effects and ProTools).
Due to the overwhelming audience and viewer popularity of the original ‘Season One’ spoof promos edited by Hybrid’s Michael Bartoli and Christopher Willoughby, the network has ordered a show series starring Kevin Hart, which will begin production in 2013. Adam Epstein also edits for “Saturday Night Live” and is available for commercials via Hybrid Edit in both Los Angeles and New York.
